A horrific turn of events in the Humble area on a typically placid last Sunday evening ended in a tragedy, as a man now faces charges following a fatal crash. According to City of Houston News, the crash occurred at 1700 West Lake Houston Parkway around 5:45 p.m. The suspect, identified as 40-year-old John Nathan Dool, has been charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter.
The victims of the crash were Curtis Van Diest, age 60, and Catherine Van Diest, age 66. Investigations revealed, that a white Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck driven by Dool was speeding westbound when it collided with a white Cadillac XT5, which was pulling out from a stop sign. The crash's impact was severe, propelling the vehicle several feet before Dool's truck came to a stop against a pole.
Officials from the Houston Police Department Vehicular Crimes Division, including Sergeant P. Lee and Officer C. Song, reported the details of the collision. The victims were pronounced deceased at the scene, and Dool was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. It was later determined that Dool was impaired at the time of the accident, resulting in his arrest and charges. The ongoing HPD investigation will continue to examine this tragic incident that claimed two lives too soon.
