Following a vehicle fire on Saturday afternoon, eastbound lanes of I-70 near Floyd Hill were initially shut down, throwing travelers' plans into disarray. As fervid tourists and locals alike sought passage through Colorado's mountainous arteries, the Colorado State Patrol confirmed to 9NEWS that the conflagration began with the rear wheels of a semi-truck igniting. Fortunately, despite the flames that consumed rubber and metal, there were no reported injuries.
According to Denver7, closures spanned from Exit 244 and Exit 248, a swath of interstate critical for those journeying to and from the heartland. As crews labored to put the fire to rest, the asphalt remained barren of its usual cargo of commerce and travel. CDOT advised, and it seemed delays were inevitable, that detours would be the unsought companions of many for the evening hours.
By nightfall, some respite came with the reopening of I-70 eastbound, as detailed in an update from the Colorado Department of Transportation. At 7:45 p.m., the choked lanes of freedom were cleared, returning to their natural state of movement and motion. This announcement, eagerly awaited by those caught in the mesh of travel delays, was noted by Denver7.
