It was a decisive night for the underdogs as the Indiana Fever secured a commanding 81-54 win over the Las Vegas Aces last night, snapping a 16-game losing streak against the team. According to the Associated Press, Kelsey Mitchell led the effort with 25 points, supported by a 20-point performance from Aliyah Boston. The Fever achieved the victory despite the absence of injured guard Caitlin Clark.
Despite shooting 26%, their offensive effort remained marred by 17 turnovers, the Aces’ journey on court seemed plagued by inefficiency. A’ja Wilson alone carried the weight of the Aces' scoring, putting up a formidable 29 points, as reported by the official Las Vegas Aces site, still, her efforts weren’t enough to lift a team whose remaining roster managed just 16% shooting.
Indiana established control early, entering halftime with a 46-24 lead. The team recorded a 64% shooting rate in the first half, missing only two shots in the second quarter. The scoring margin remained out of reach for the Aces in the second half.
According to the Aces' post-game analysis, Las Vegas matched Indiana’s pace after halftime but was outscored 38-20 in the paint. Turnovers and difficulties maintaining possession allowed the Fever to take advantage, maintaining a lead that carried them through to the end of the game.
The game featured several notable milestones. A’ja Wilson’s scoring performance tied her with Arike Ogunbowale for the sixth-longest streak of consecutive regular-season games with double-digit points in league history, and it remains the longest active streak. Additionally, Chelsea Gray moved up to seventh place on the WNBA’s all-time assists leaderboard.
Next, the Aces look to rebound from their loss with a series of road games, starting with a July 6 matchup against Connecticut, followed by games against New York on July 8 and Washington on July 10.
