A California tourist was airlifted from the Kalalau Trail on Sunday after being injured near Hanakāpī‘ai Falls. The Kaua‘i Fire Department responded to a distress call shortly before 12:30 p.m. and assisted the hiker from the rugged area, according to the County of Kauai.

A 41-year-old hiker was found with an ankle injury that prevented them from returning on their own. Kaua‘i personnel used the Air 1 helicopter to reach the location and gave first aid. Because of the difficult terrain on the popular trail, rescuers used a stokes litter, a basket stretcher, to short haul the hiker to a safer landing zone near the Hanakāpī‘ai Stream, as reported by the County of Kauai.

A hiker was rescued on Kaua‘i’s Kalalau Trail and flown to Princeville Airport for medical care. Hanalei Fire Station personnel and American Medical Response assisted in the operation, which was completed around 12:40 p.m., as stated by the County of Kauai.
