In a move designed to deepen community ties, the City of Jacksonville opened its virtual doors to a new online merchandise store, coupled with the launch of an interactive scavenger hunt, aimed at celebrating the city's spirit.
The store's inventory includes t-shirts, hats, tumblers, and stickers emblazoned with "I Dig Jax," part of a campaign highlighting Jacksonville's ongoing growth and renaissance. Mayor Donna Deegan remarked, "From locally designed t-shirts and hats, to gear that supports literacy and infrastructure, this store is about more than just swag - it’s about connection," according to a release from the City of Jacksonville's official news announcement. In response to resident demand for merchandise featuring Rex the Dinosaur, the campaign’s mascot, a variety of items bearing his likeness can now be purchased.
Ensuring fiscal responsibility, the city opted for print-on-demand services provided by reputable US-based companies, to avoid the use of taxpayer dollars for inventory and reduce staff labor for order fulfillment. Profits from sales, as mandated by city ordinance, will be funneled back into marketing for local events and initiatives.
To generate buzz for this e-commerce venture, city officials have also unveiled a five-week scavenger hunt. Participants will search for 3D-printed "I Dig Jax" miniature Rex statues strategically secreted around Duval. Clues to their whereabouts will be released weekly on the City’s social media channels. Jacksonville's Forge 3D Studios, a JSEB-certified company, designed, and created these special-edition statues. "And, to drum up excitement about the shop, the city also created a scavenger hunt," the City of Jacksonville's news release stated.
For those eager to join the adventure or show their Jacksonville pride, the merchandise store is now open for business, and the scavenger hunt has officially commenced.
