An incident occurred yesterday morning on Jacksonville's Northside, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) at a residence in the 11500 block of Lorence Avenue. According to First Coast News, two young adults, a man and a woman, both believed to be around 19-20 years old, were found dead in what appeared to be a murder-suicide.
Responding to the scene around 1:30 a.m., law enforcement discovered the couple in a room together, the man having suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, and the woman presenting with a stab wound to her neck. Both individuals were pronounced dead on the scene by arriving members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.
The two young individuals were in a relationship for the last two years and shared the home where the event took place. JSO Sgt. Highfill, in a statement obtained by The Florida Times-Union, also noted the discovery of "multiple suicide notes" left by the male victim.
Police, after the conclusion of their initial investigation, have concluded the man killed the woman before turning the weapon upon himself. "[It was an] isolated incident, we don't expect there to be any ongoing threat to the public at this point," Sgt. Highfill told First Coast News. The couple's names have yet to be released to the public, as the investigation by JSO homicide and crime scene detectives, who worked with the Medical Examiner's Office and the State Attorney's Office, continues.
