A Jones, Oklahoma community is reeling after a well-known farmer and father, Brad McMichael, was killed in a violent encounter with two water buffalo he had recently acquired. McMichael, age 45, sustained fatal injuries from the attack, which occurred on Friday. According to KOCO 5, McMichael's ex-wife Amy Smith remembered him saying, "He was the hardest working man that I had ever known."
McMichael had a history of working with livestock and had plans to potentially sell the buffalo or use them for agricultural purposes. Jennifer Green, his girlfriend, expressed to KOCO 5 that, "He was most likely going to sell them or find another way to utilize them." The police have reported McMichael was tending to the animals when the unexpected attack unfolded, though the motivation behind the water buffalo's aggression remains to be uncovered. Both animals were subsequently euthanized by law enforcement: one for the attack, and the other for displaying aggressive behavior towards officers.
Local news sources KFYRTV highlighted McMichael's involvement with livestock and exotic animals, noting his years of experience in various related activities. His death has profoundly impacted his family and the Jones community, both of whom are lamenting the loss of a figure known for his dedication to agriculture and animal husbandry.
As reported by Local 12, the incident has left a "huge void" in the tight-knit community of Jones. As this small town continues to collectively mourn, they come together to remember a man described as not only dedicated to his work but also a loving father and friend to many.
