The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) is gearing up to educate and engage the community once more with its annual Safety Fair, taking place at The Avenues mall on Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Freely accessible to the public, this event aims to bolster awareness about public safety and health, offering a plethora of informational exhibits and interactive experiences according to the JSO's announcement.
In the sprawling domain of The Avenues, attendees can navigate through displays on the first floor and the parking garage discovering various facets of public safety, and amidst the throngs, they'll witness live demos and can mingle with the officers and specialists behind the badge who play a pivotal role in safeguarding the community and with health and safety representatives sharing their crucial messages toggle between keen learners and informed citizens, and meet with JSO recruiters keen to brief on careers at JSO.
Moreover, the event gives the public a chance to responsibly dispose of obsolete medications by handing them over to JSO detectives, a service complemented by ongoing collection at the Police Memorial Building for those who can't make it to the fair. The interactive fair will draw those curious about the inner workings of law enforcement with a showcase of police vehicles, including motorcycles, a helicopter, and even SWAT gear. Citizens can also immerse themselves in discussions on firearm safety, and water precaution, and set out emergency plans with experts.
Community engagement towers as a cornerstone of the event, with Sheriff's Watch highlighting their citizen-focused initiatives and Smokey Bear making an appearance to resonate with the young and old alike, and along with this ensemble, information hubs from the First Coast YMCA, Red Cross, UF Health TraumaOne, and more will anchor themselves, offering insights and registrations for numerous safety programs.
