Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters responded to a structure fire in Port Allen on a late Thursday evening, combating the blaze that had engulfed a residence on Waialo Road. In a coordinated effort that rounded up personnel from multiple stations, no injuries were reported, though the fire left one individual without a home, as reported by the County of Kaua'i.
According to the County of Kaua'i, the call came shortly after 9:45 p.m. last Thursday, dispatching teams from Hanapēpē, Waimea, and Līhu‘e fire stations, alongside the on-duty Battalion Chief, the Fire Prevention Bureau, and the Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative. Arriving quickly at the scene only five minutes post-alert, firefighters found themselves face-to-face with flames emanating from the building's first floor. In an efficient manner, displacing darkness, Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative shut off power to the units, aiding firefighters as they worked to douse the fire.
Firefighters remained on scene, clearing it by near 11:00 p.m., ensuring no embers remained to rekindle tragedy. The Fire Prevention Bureau took over the investigation into the fire's origins, as yet unknown. "Damages to the structure and contents are estimated at $116,000," reported a preliminary account, expense calculations reflecting loss not so readily measured in mere dollars. “The cause of the fire remains under investigation,” as noted by the County of Kaua'i official press release, the wounded structure now yielding its secrets to the Fire Prevention Bureau's scrutiny.
