Heads up, Kauai drivers: some road work is coming down the pipeline later this month that might make your travel times a little longer. The Department of Public Works has announced lane closures on Po‘ipū Road, stretching from the Kōloa Road junction to the Po‘ipū Roundabout. These closures are slated for July 23 to 25, so keep this in mind for any mid-summer plans you might have.
According to the County of Kauai's press release, the work is scheduled to take place between 7:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting, and it's all for a good cause: vegetation maintenance and necessary road repairs. Remember, these plans can always change due to the whims of Mother Nature, so it's smart to stay tuned for updates. And for those driving through, a single-lane contraflow traffic pattern will be in operation while the work's being done.
If you're planning to do any driving in the area, the department urges you to plan accordingly and allow for some extra travel time to navigate the contraflow. To make sure everyone’s on the same page, electronic message boards will be posted in the area to inform motorists about the upcoming works.
Parking will be a no-go in the work zones, so for residents and visitors alike, take heed to avoid headaches. For safety's sake, flaggers will be on site, directing traffic to ensure smooth transitions through the area.
