
In Kirkwood, Missouri, a series of incidents were reported between July 5 and last Sunday, including a self-inflicted gunshot wound, copper plate theft, vehicle theft, and an assault on a cyclist. The Kirkwood Police Department provided details in a social media post. The first incident occurred on July 6, when a man unintentionally discharged a firearm and shot himself in the foot while showing it to a friend inside his vehicle. He was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
On July 7, an AT&T representative reported the theft of copper grounding plates, valued at approximately $300, from a tower. The incident is believed to have occurred sometime between early May and early July. Later, during the early hours of July 11, a resident’s vehicle was taken from her driveway, where the key fob had been left inside. The theft, which occurred around 3:13 a.m., was recorded by a neighbor’s doorbell camera, and the vehicle has been entered into law enforcement databases as stolen.
On July 12, a cyclist reported being threatened and physically confronted by the driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The individual involved was described as a white male, approximately 18 to 19 years old, with light-colored gelled hair and wearing a Hawaiian-style Cardinals shirt. According to the report, the driver approached the cyclist after making verbal threats, struck him with the vehicle door, and pushed him before leaving the scene. The incident occurred near West Adams by the tennis courts. No injuries were reported.
In addition to the previously noted incidents, the Kirkwood Police Department responded to two shoplifting reports and three crisis intervention team (CIT) calls. Officers also handled 35 residential and commercial alarm activations and documented 27 motor vehicle accidents, including one involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Kirkwood and Essex. Approximately 214 traffic stops were conducted during the reporting period, with around 35% taking place on or near Kirkwood Road. The department also assisted the Fire/EMS Department on 100 calls.
