The National Weather Service in Knoxville is forecasting a sweltering week. Heat index values are anticipated to climb into the upper 90s and potentially reach around 100 degrees in the Valley locations. According to the latest NWS update, while days are expected to be mostly sunny and hot, there's also a considerable chance for showers and thunderstorms almost daily.
Alongside the uncomfortable heat, isolated to scattered storms are predicted this afternoon into the evening. "Heat index values of around 100 degrees can be expected again this afternoon, especially in Valley locations," stated the NWS in Knoxville. People in these areas should prepare for strong winds and localized flooding, which may occur in some storms, even though the wind speed now remains calm.
This weather pattern, detailed in NWS's latest updates, is not just a one-day affair. "Daily chances for storms will continue with a few storms capable of producing strong winds and localized flooding," the forecast for Thursday through Tuesday explains. Residents should stay prepared for abrupt weather changes throughout the week as the region grapples with the high temperatures and the persistent threat of thunderstorms.
The NWS's Hazardous Weather Outlook alerts for the potential of strong storm conditions across a broad stretch, including portions of southwest North Carolina, east Tennessee, and southwest Virginia. However, the NWS also clarifies that spotter activation is not required now.
