Residents in Knoxville and surrounding areas should brace themselves for another round of summer storms. According to a National Weather Service (NWS) update, thunderstorms are on the docket, with a 60% chance of showers and storms likely mainly post 3 p.m. today. While the morning may start with patchy fog before 8 am, the day is set to heat up quickly, hitting highs near 91 degrees and heat index values shooting as high as 96. A calm wind in the morning will give way to a light westerly breeze of around 5 mph during the afternoon.
By evening, the odds to encounter thunderstorms soar to an 80% chance before dipping to 71 degrees. Those living in or visiting the area tonight will need to watch for potential severe storms, capable to unleash damaging wind gusts and cause flash flooding. "Spotter activation may be needed to report any storm that could become severe or result in flash flooding Wednesday afternoon and evening," the NWS cautions, suggesting conditions could quickly become hazardous.
Looking ahead, the weather pattern doesn't seem ready to ease up just yet. The forecast from Thursday through the coming Tuesday indicates a consistent chance of showers and thunderstorms across the board, with daytime highs teetering close to the 90s. Although the probability for widespread hazardous weather is low for the remainder of the week, residents should still be prepared for intermittent showers and the occasional thunderstorm.
For those planning outdoor activities in the next few days, it's wise to keep to stay informed through local forecasts. The NWS advises the chance of precipitation remains significant—ranging from 30 to 80 percent through next Tuesday, with rainfall amounts varying with each storm. Be sure to plan ahead and keep an eye skyward, especially in the afternoons when storms seem to more likely develop.
