The Lady Lake Police Department has concluded a weeklong traffic enforcement campaign, issuing a total of 150 citations and warnings to drivers to enhance road safety. As a part of the Florida Department of Transportation's Operation Southern Slow Down, the local enforcement push focused on reducing speed-related incidents, with Lady Lake officers dedicating around 80 hours to the initiative, as reported by ClickOrlando.
Operation Southern Slow Down was not solely a Florida affair; law enforcement agencies across the southern states, including Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, and Tennessee, participated. This regional partnership was mirrored by efforts across Central Florida to rigorously enforce crosswalk safety in anticipation of the new school year. According to WFTV, Lady Lake Police Chief Steve Hunt stressed, "This campaign gives us an opportunity to remind drivers that speeding and aggressive driving put everyone at risk."
The detailed outcomes of Lady Lake's enforcement activities included 91 written warnings for speeding, 39 speeding citations, 13 citations for aggressive driving, and seven citations for seatbelt violations. During this concerted effort, officers did not have to make any DUI arrests.
