A suspect was fatally shot by an LAPD officer in the Hyde Park neighborhood on Thursday evening, amid what has been described as a physical altercation. As reported by FOX LA, officers from the LAPD Gang Enforcement Detail Unit observed two men arguing at approximately 6:20 p.m. near the intersection of Hyde Park and Crenshaw boulevards. During the heated exchange, one of the individuals, later identified as the suspect, fired multiple shots, which prompted the LAPD officers to return fire, fatally striking him.
Despite initial reports suggesting an argument, later developments from ABC7 suggest the confrontation may have been an attempted robbery at gunpoint. The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics pronounced the suspect dead at the scene. Currently detained, the second man involved in the altercation has not been injured, nor have any officers, though the suspect managed to release at least one round before being shot.
The official LAPD Twitter account shared a post from a PIO, as detailed by LAPD PIO, confirming an officer-involved shooting investigation in the Hyde Park area. The suspect, who was armed with a firearm, reportedly discharged his weapon during the physical conflict leading up to the altercation with police. According to the statement, no officers incurred any injuries, and the second individual embroiled in the incident, while not wounded, is aiding detectives by providing his account of the events.
