Residents of a Las Cruces apartment complex were jerked awake early Saturday morning by the distinct smell of smoke wafting through the building. According to the City of Las Cruces, firefighters rushed to the 3000 block of Majestic Ridge just after 1:15 a.m., where they encountered a fire blazing in a third-floor unit.
Quickly assessing the situation, the first responders launched an interior attack to douse the flames, tackling the fire that was determined and ready to consume the structure it had claimed. In a mere 20 minutes, the fire was reined in, confining it before it could infect adjacent homes with its destructive kiss. The efforts of the engine company successfully minimized property damage, serving as a testament to their efficiency.
Remarkably, amidst the chaos of an event that can so often steal more than just possessions, no injuries were reported. Candles, cooking, or something more ominous, the cause of the fire is currently shrouded in mystery, left to the investigation's voracious appetite for answers. As families wait, clutched in the embrace of uncertainty, damage estimates remain elusive, lying just beyond the horizon of the known.
