The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has entered the final stretch of its sign replacement project set to upgrade freeway signage throughout the Las Vegas Valley, a sweeping initiative that stands to redefine the motoring landscape from Henderson to Kyle Canyon Road. The project focuses on updating I-515 signs to the newly designated I-11 route, affecting corridors along I-11, U.S. 95, U.S. 93, I-215, and various local thoroughfares. According to the information provided by NDOT, this infrastructure project represents not only an improvement but also a step toward consistency in the valley’s route naming system.
Motorists can anticipate a schedule of overnight lane closures that are planned to limit the upheaval of regular traffic flows. NDOT has outlined that these restrictions will span from July 8 through the following morning, and then again on consecutive nights until July 11. The most immediate impact will be felt with the closure of eastbound Kyle Canyon Rd from Oso Blanco to Sun Village Pkwy and, in a subsequent evening, the westbound direction of the same stretch. A plan travel routes ahead is advised, as lane reductions on East Flamingo Rd and its on-ramp to I-11/U.S. 95/U.S. 93 will further necessitate detours.
The changes to freeway signage reflect the Federal Highway Administration’s official designation from November 2023, which renamed the stretch of I-515 between the Henderson Interchange and Kyle Canyon Road as I-11. According to NDOT, the renaming aims to simplify and clarify the regional freeway system for easier navigation.
To stay informed about traffic updates, NDOT collaborates with Waze to share planned highway restrictions. However, drivers are advised to remain cautious and alert in all work zones.
