It was just another day at work for Austin Dodson, but his alertness and quick thinking during a shift have earned him the City of Lawton's True North Award. Dodson, assisting with bulk waste pickup post-storm in Ward 7, noticed something amiss: a vehicle awkwardly abandoned in the middle of an intersection. Without hesitation, he and his colleague stopped to investigate, a decision that would prove life-saving.
Inside the vehicle at SW Monroe and 19th Street, they discovered the driver unconscious. Trusting his gut, Austin didn't waste a moment as he called for emergency services and remained by the side of the individual until help arrived. His timely intervention allowed EMS to transport the critical driver to the hospital, as reported by the City of Lawton. If not for Austin’s swift response, the outcome could have been much darker.
Dodson's unwavering commitment in a critical situation not only exemplifies the spirit of the True North Award but also serves as an inspiration, encouraging others to follow suit. "Austin’s actions embody the spirit of the True North Award, which honors City of Lawton employees who demonstrate outstanding service, integrity, and leadership," the City of Lawton announced.
