As the mercury climbs, Lewisville City Hall has activated cooling centers to provide residents a reprieve from the sweltering heat. In a recent social media post, two locations were announced where individuals can find shelter from the high temperatures. The Salvation Army Lewisville at 880 Fox Avenue will be open Monday through Friday, split between morning hours from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and afternoon hours from 1 to 4 p.m.
For those who might need to escape the heat beyond the traditional workweek, the Lewisville Public Library at 1197 W Main St has extended hours. Available Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, the library acts to keep city residents cool and safe. However, it's important to note that the library is closed on Sundays, and those seeking shelter will have to look for alternative locations on that day.
The efforts to cool down the populace come with a set of guidelines intended to maintain order and safety within these public spaces. According to the Facebook post from Lewisville City Hall, service animals are the only pets allowed within the cooling center premises. Additionally, for the convenience and comfort of all, drinks are permitted as long as they are contained in lidded vessels, but caution must be taken to avoid spillage near electronic equipment.
