The Lewisville Police Department has launched applications for its Citizen Police Academy, promising a behind-the-scenes glimpse into law enforcement for those in the area. As highlighted on the City of Lewisville, this educational endeavor begins on August 28 and spans a 10-week curriculum. Lewisville locals who fancy an immersive educational experience into the workings of the police can apply until the closing date, August 15.
The course's syllabus is diverse, covering everything from K-9 units to SWAT tactics, and a peek into the lives of those manning the jail operations. Not just a theoretical venture, the course also allows for practical exposure, including ride-alongs with patrol officers after graduation, and even opportunities to join the force’s eyes and ears via the Citizen On Patrol (COP) volunteer program. This is not your average civics class, but rather, a chance to understand what officers face daily in Lewisville.
Classes will take place at the Tittle McFadden Public Safety Center, located at 1187 W. Main Street, making it easily accessible to residents. The program seeks to engage participants every Thursday morning from 9 a.m. to noon, offering a consistent scheduling pattern for interested parties. The setup aims to enhance the community's efficiency in law enforcement by fostering informed citizens who can actively contribute to the city's safety and understanding.
