On July 23, a substantial amount of drugs and firearms were uncovered during a traffic stop on Interstate 40 in Haywood County, as per a statement by the West Tennessee Drug Task Force. According to Action News 5, authorities found two loaded firearms, 254 pounds of promethazine known on the streets as 'lean,' over 100 opioid pills, and three pounds of marijuana stashed in a rental car. Four individuals from Texas, identified as Kelveon Alexander, 23; Mikkell Lang, 23; Richelle Miller, 26; and Jaylynd Parker, 32, were taken into custody facing multiple charges including possession with intent, possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony, and possession of a legend drug without a prescription.
Details provided by WREG disclose that the arrest involved a collaboration between the West Tennessee Drug Task Force and the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office, the search revealing the significant cache of contraband was initiated after a vehicle was observed tailgating another on the interstate, leading to the traffic stop and search of the closely following rental vehicle. Further investigation determined the promethazine had been recently stolen from a pharmaceutical supply company in Houston, and the inquiry is ongoing with additional charges anticipated in Haywood County and potentially Houston, Texas.
Moreover, specific charges against the individuals include two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony and one count of possession of Schedule VI drugs with intent as reported by WBBJ-TV. Among the suspects, Jaylynd Parker is also held on felony warrants from Maryland and Virginia, "Drug Task Force Director Johnie Carter says that four people are in custody on felony drug, theft and weapon charges." This collaborative effort highlights the continued vigilance of law enforcement against the trafficking of illegal substances and the utilization of roadways for such illicit activities.
