Residents of the North Freeway area were met with an unexpected disruption earlier this week when a serious crash occurred due to suspected drunk driving. Last Wednesday evening, local deputies responded to a major single-vehicle accident along the 20100 block of the North Freeway. Garett Thomas, the man behind the wheel, appeared to be intoxicated and showed multiple signs thereof following the crash, according to a Facebook post by Constable Mark Herman's Office.
In the wake of the incident, a blood warrant was executed and authorities confirmed that the crash had caused substantial damage to county property. Notably, the guardrail struck by Thomas's vehicle was significantly impacted. TXDOT was subsequently notified to assess and address the reported damage.
The Harris County District Attorney's Office has since moved forward with charges, accepting a Driving While Intoxicated charge against Thomas. He was booked into the Harris County Jail, and his bond was set relatively low at $100 by County Court 1.
"Our deputies remain committed to holding impaired drivers accountable, especially when their actions put the public and public property at risk," stated Constable Mark Herman, as reported on the Precinct 4 Facebook page. As the investigation proceeds, community members are kept informed and encouraged to remain vigilant. Updates on this case, as well as other crime and safety information for the area, can be followed through the office's mobile app "C4 NOW" and its Facebook page.
