Minneapolis Police are in the midst of an investigation following a deadly shooting that unfolded in the early hours in North Minneapolis. Police Chief Brian O’Hara informed the public that the incident took place near the 2100 block of Dupont Avenue North. According to a bulletin from the Minneapolis Police Department, the police responded around 2:35 a.m. after a ShotSpotter was activated, alongside multiple 911 calls.
The responders found a man in his 20s with a critical gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to North Memorial Health, yet despite the efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. Initial information suggests the man and a companion were riding electric scooters when they were caught in the gunfire. After the man was struck, his companion dialed 911. Police have not yet determined if this was an act of targeted aggression or a calamitous chance encounter gone tremendously wrong.
“This tragic loss of life is something we, as a community, simply cannot accept,” declared Chief O’Hara in an attempt to make a stirring appeal to the public conscience. The chief urged anyone with information to step forward, emphasizing the value of even seemingly minor details. He stressed the importance of public assistance in unraveling this act of violence.
The name of the victim as well as the official cause and manner of death will be disclosed by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office upon conclusion of their examination.
