A tragic event unfolded over the weekend at John Martin Reservoir State Park, where a 33-year-old man was found non-responsive in the park showers late Saturday evening. According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the man was discovered around 9 p.m., after which emergency procedures were initiated.

The individual who found the man immediately called 911 and started CPR in an urgent attempt to revive him. A Colorado Parks and Wildlife Officer was quickly on the scene, administering Narcan, a drug commonly used to counteract opioid overdoses. They were soon joined by a Bent County Deputy, and Hasty Mc Clave, Lamar firefighters, and EMTs who continued efforts to save the man's life. Despite their attempts, the visitor was pronounced deceased by the Bent County Coroner at 10:30 p.m.

While the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation, the park's management team expressed its sympathies. "CPW offers our condolences to the family and friends of the visitor, and to everyone involved in this tragic incident," said Dan Kirmer, Park Manager, as per Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
