
Maricopa County has set a record by scooping up an impressive 85 National Achievement Awards from the National Association of Counties (NACo), signaling a year of unprecedented success in county government innovation. The recognition spans multiple departments, with focus areas ranging from workforce development to environmental initiatives such as tackling extreme heat and prioritizing water conservation efforts. Leadership at the county level beamed with pride, highlighting the relentless drive of the county's employees to tackle key regional matters head-on.
Chairman Thomas Galvin, District 2, emphasized the employees' dedication, “Day in and day out, our employees work hard to provide solutions for residents on many of our region’s most critical issues,” he extolled. The bounty of accolades from NACo has set a new bar for Maricopa County, affirming its status as a benchmark for efficient, innovative governmental operations nationwide. Notably, the Human Services department garnered 23 awards, while Public Health was close behind with 22, an impressive tally in an arena where the work never ceases, never rests.
Another highlight of the NACo recognitions saw numerous nods towards departments like the County Attorney, Assessor, Sheriff's Office, and the Superior Court of Maricopa County, all being celebrated for their contributions to the betterment of the community. In speaking directly to the significance of these awards, County Manager Jen Pokorski provided perspective on the behind-the-scenes efforts that often go unnoticed but are now thrust into the spotlight due to this slew of awards.
"Whether they serve our residents directly or work behind the scenes, our team strives for innovation, constant improvement, and providing the best and most efficient service,” Pokorski shared with evident pride.
