A Marine from Camp Lejeune has been charged in connection with a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 40 in Wake County, resulting in the death of a fellow Marine. As reported by ABC11, the collision occurred Thursday near mile marker 287 when a Honda Accord driven at high speed by Diego Andres Martinez Duque made a dangerous lane change, setting off a chain reaction of events.

After Duque's Honda hit a Mercedes-Benz, it struck a guardrail and a parked Ford pickup before veering back onto the road and crashing into a Ford Focus, according to CBS17. The crash left several damaged vehicles scattered across the interstate. The Honda Accord came to a stop facing the guardrail, and the unoccupied pickup truck ended up partly on the road, both facing southbound.

The passenger in Duque's vehicle, Jesus Alexander Colin, a Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune, did not survive despite being rushed to Duke Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. "The North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) stated that Colin was later pronounced dead," as reported by WCTI12.

Martinez Duque is now facing multiple charges, including misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, careless and reckless driving, and making an unsafe lane change, according to ABC11.
