Mayor Muriel Bowser is set to preview the construction of the future National Geographic Museum of Exploration in Downtown DC today. According to an announcement on the Mayor's official website, the tour, scheduled at 11 AM, will showcase the forthcoming facility ahead of its mid-2026 opening.
The Museum, measuring over 100,000 square feet, is expected to enhance the capital's family-friendly attractions and bolster the city's entertainment economy. "The over 100,000-square-foot museum will bring a dynamic, family-friendly destination to Downtown DC," as per the Mayor's Office. This move aligns with Mayor Bowser’s commitment, as outlined in her Fiscal Year 2026 Budget called Grow DC, to drive economic growth, create job and support the local business landscape.
Indeed, in the words of Mayor Bowser's office, the museum is "slated to open in mid-2026" and is a vital piece of the plan to inject new life into DC’s corporate sectors while making the city an even more inviting place for visitors. The budget focuses on proactive strategies to expand the local economy and employment opportunities.
