The McNairy County Sheriff's Office has taken to social media to announce its engagement in the fight against the burgeoning criminal enterprise of human trafficking. This industry, noted as the second-fastest growing type of criminal activity behind drug trafficking, is the focus of an awareness initiative taking place between July 28 and August 4. During this period, health departments and various organizations across the state will take part in the powerful Red Sand Project, an art installation intended to shed light on the grave issue of human exploitation.
Residents are invited to join the week-long event, as the McNairy County Sheriff's Office teams with the McNairy County Health Department and Public Health Educator, Madison Stackens. In a recent post on their official Facebook page, the Sheriff’s Office implored the community to get involved, citing, "Together, let's raise awareness about human trafficking in Tennessee!" The social media post can be found with further details on Facebook.
With "Human Trafficking is the second-fastest growing criminal industry, just behind Drug Trafficking" echoed in the call to action, the McNairy County Sheriff's Office stresses the urgency of addressing what has become a statewide, if not national, crisis.
