
Memphis has been named one of ten winners of the 2025 All-America City Award by the National Civic League. The City of Memphis was chosen from 20 finalists for its efforts to promote inclusive growth and tackle long-term challenges through teamwork and innovation.
"It's an incredible honor to be recognized for inclusive practices, because that's exactly what it will take to change the trajectory of our city," Mayor Paul Young told the City of Memphis website, articulating the significance of collective leadership in driving a community forward this distinction reflects the efforts and aspirations that Memphis has harbored, weaving together the voices of over 70,000 residents through the Memphis 3.0 initiative, which intends to revitalized areas focusing on walkability and neighborhood identity with equitable investment.
The award also highlights the city's innovative workforce development programs, such as the BDC Business Hub and Moore Tech, which aim at establishing green job pathways, encouraging landfill diversion, and broadening the reach of technical education, according to the City of Memphis website. Furthermore, Memphis has been diligently working towards safer, more health-conscious neighborhoods, addressing environmental disparities and improving housing and public health situations.
During the All-America City Award competition, a Memphis delegation gave a heartfelt presentation about the city's growth and progress. The event allowed cities from across the country to share their efforts and learn from one another. The National Civic League praised Memphis and the other winners for bringing people together, inspiring local change, and building strong, resilient communities. Other winning cities included Akron, OH; Port St. Lucie, FL; Seattle, WA; Kinston, NC; Hampton, VA; Carrboro, NC; Jacksonville, NC; Chelsea, MA; and Tallahassee, FL, as reported by the City of Memphis.
Since its inception in 1949, the All-America City Award has been bestowing honor upon local communities across the United States that exhibit exemplary collaboration to tackle pressing issues and drive concrete outcomes, and the distinction, administered by the National Civic League that has weathered more than seven decades, continues to serve as a beacon of progressive urban achievement, as per the City of Memphis.
