The Miami Dolphins' defense has been dealt a heavy blow as cornerback Kader Kohou is confirmed to be out for the entire season following a knee injury sustained during practice. The player, who went undrafted in 2022 but quickly made a name for himself, suffered the injury on a one-on-one rep against receiver Tyreek Hill. While walking off the field with a slight limp, tests later revealed that he has a partial ACL tear requiring surgery, as reported by CBS News Miami.

In the aftermath of the injury, head coach Mike McDaniel expressed his dismay, telling the Miami Herald, "I saw him ascend to a different level, trying to take reins of his career and get his game to an even higher level." McDaniel continued to say, "For that and the timing of it, I was crushed until I talked to Kader and Kader made me feel a little bit better." Compounding the team's concerns is the injury to safety Ashtyn Davis, who, while avoiding a season-ending scenario, will still be out for an extended period due to an ankle/Achilles issue.

Dolphins' secondary, arguably the team's most fragile unit, faces a challenging situation with several experienced players either signed to other teams or injured. With the starting roles on the boundary open for competition, a host of players, including former Raiders and Patriots cornerback Jack Jones, Kendall Sheffield, and newcomers such as Ethan Robinson and BJ Adams, are set to vie for the top spots. Davis, projected to be the third safety, has competition from various others, including fifth-round pick Dante Trader Jr.

McDaniel noted that while the injury is a setback, the team's next steps are clear. "If there was a situation in a week where I didn't feel that we were good," McDaniel explained to CBS News Miami, "(general manager) Chris (Grier) and I would talk, and we would get something done there." The Dolphins' approach appears to leave the door open for potential signings down the track. However, former Bills corner Rasul Douglas remains unsigned after reportedly turning down offers from Miami previously.

Off the field, the Dolphins may soon adjust their offensive lineup, as McDaniel also indicated interest in tight end Noah Fant, who recently visited the team. In a statement captured by the Miami Herald, the head coach elaborated, "Noah Fant was someone we had a little mutual interest. We brought him in on a visit and allowed him to measure up what he's got going on and see if it's a fit for the team." Conversations and decisions on Fant's potential recruitment are expected in the following days.
