The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York has a new First Assistant U.S. Attorney. Michael G. Considine was officially sworn in to oversee the Criminal, Civil, Appeals, and Administrative Divisions of the Office, as announced by U.S. Attorney Joseph Nocella, Jr. yesterday. Their longstanding professional relationship stretches back over three decades, each having worked as federal prosecutors within this very Office. "Mike is not only an outstanding lawyer who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Office, but he also possesses impeccable judgment and the utmost integrity," Nocella said, as noted in an official press release.
Considine’s career includes serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District from 1988 to 1994, during which he was appointed Deputy Chief of the Long Island Offices in Garden City and Hauppauge. While working under Loretta Lynch, the Long Island Chief at the time, he focused on organized crime cases involving the Colombo and Gambino families. Following this, he worked at the law firms Seward and Kissel LLP and Day Pitney LLP, concentrating on government investigations and corporate compliance. At Day Pitney, he served as a litigation partner and chaired the Government Investigations Practice Group.
Beyond his courtroom work, Mr. Considine has served as a compliance overseer, appointed as an independent monitor by the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Department of Justice, and the Environmental Protection Agency for various organizations. He has contributed to the field through his writings and as a co-author of articles on government investigations and parallel criminal and civil proceedings. Additionally, he is actively involved with the Federal Bar Council, where he currently serves as Vice-Chair.
A graduate of Georgetown University Law Center, Boston College, and Fordham Preparatory School, Considine began his legal career as a law clerk to the Honorable Shirley W. Kram of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
