The Michigan Lottery is eagerly awaiting the winner to step forward and claim their winnings. Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli expressed her congratulations, noting, "A lucky Michigander woke up this morning to news that they won $1 million playing Powerball at MichiganLottery.com," in a statement obtained by both FOX 2 Detroit and Detroit Free Press. The winning ticket was sold online, which could mean the recipient is unaware of their new millionaire status.
No participants in the July 14 draw matched all five white balls along with the red Powerball number, which would have landed a jackpot, setting the stage for a growing prize. The Powerball jackpot, as reported by the Detroit Free Press, stood at an estimated $248 million with a cash value of $112.4 million for Monday's drawing. With no top prize winner, Wednesday's drawing has an expectancy to balloon to $264 million ($119.7 million cash value).
