Officer Michalski was fatally shot during an encounter with a wanted suspect in Milwaukee. According to a social media post from the Milwaukee Police Department, officers from the Special Investigations Division were attempting to apprehend a suspect on the 2400 block of North 28th Street when they came under gunfire.
The suspect, wanted for parole violation, heroin possession, and harassment intimidation related to domestic violence, was observed entering a home on July 25, 2018. During the search, the suspect fired multiple rounds, striking Officer Michalski. Officers returned fire and arrested the suspect without further gunfire.
Officer Michalski sustained serious injuries and was transported to Froedtert Hospital.Despite medical efforts, he died from his injuries. Officer Michalski served the Milwaukee community for 20 years, including 17 years as a police officer, and is survived by a spouse and three sons.
