An update provided on the department's social media outlined how this prior relationship-building alerted the officer to the impending crime.
"One of our officers spent time walking the neighborhood and building trust with residents. Thanks to that community connection, he was alerted just before another robbery took place," the post described. The approach to community policing emphasizes the value of officers becoming an organic part of the areas they serve, finding that their presence can sometimes help identify potential threats quickly.
At the time of the arrest, the juvenile suspect was found in possession of two firearms. The post praised the officers' swift action: "Great work officers for stopping another robbery in progress and getting more illegal guns off the streets."
