
A 13-year-old boy, who vanished while skateboarding in the community of Goose Creek Lake, was discovered in a Missouri ravine after a harrowing four-day search. The St. Francois County Sheriff's Department reported that he last seen on Sunday and was found injured at the bottom of a ravine, thanks to a search and rescue K-9 from the Farmington Correctional Center K-9 Unit.
First locating his skateboard a half mile from his home yesterday, authorities intensified their efforts, which included K-9 "Darrell", a bloodhound known for tracking through steep terrain. A collaborative effort by the Farmington Correctional Center K-9 Unit and local law enforcement enabled intensive searching, despite the heavily vegetated and challenging landscape surrounding Goose Creek. The boy was airlifted to a St. Louis hospital, carrying with him a serious leg injury, after resided without food or water for the duration, according to a report by KSDK.
In a statement obtained by FOX2Now, the Sheriff's Department expressed their relief, stating, "(His) immediate family has been notified, and our hearts are with them during this difficult moment. We extend our deepest wishes for (the teen’s) full and speedy recovery." This incident has largely been considered an accident, and investigators have found no signs of foul play thus far.
Darrell, the K-9, followed a trail through the steep and treacherous terrain, finally locating the boy approximately 240 feet down in a ravine and about 540 yards from where his skateboard was discovered, lying in a foot of water, as reported by The Charlotte Observer. Despite his ordeal, the local community and authorities are hopeful for the teenager's full recovery.
