Investigators have arrested six juvenile suspects after a concerted effort by the Modesto Police Department's Street Gang Unit in response to a broad daylight shooting incident that happened on June 25. According to the social media post released by the Modesto Police Department, the shooting occurred near Pelandale Avenue and Honey Creek Road in northwest Modesto, though luckily, no victims were discovered at the scene.
In the weeks following, with the evidence that patrol officers located on the scene, the Street Gang Unit took over the investigation, meticulously collecting further evidence and chasing down leads. All the suspects, identified as under the age of 18, found themselves in police custody after efforts from multiple law enforcement agencies. With assistance from the Stanislaus County SWAT Team and the Stanislaus County Probation Department, the Modesto Police Department SWAT Team served several search warrants in Modesto and Empire on July 22.
The six arrested suspects have been booked into Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall on charges ranging from conspiracy to attempted murder. As part of the arrests, officers also recovered a firearm and ammunition. "Gang violence in our community will not be tolerated," Sgt. Mike Harman, leader of the Street Gang Unit, took a hard stance, as reported in the Modesto Police Department's post. The unit's commitment to disrupting and dismantling criminal street gangs was emphasized, aiming to safeguard Modest's youth and broader community.
The investigation remains active and ongoing, and police have not released further details at this time.
