In a move to support ongoing flood relief efforts, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has announced an extension for increased weight allowance on truckloads of aggregate. According to MoDOT, trucks can now haul up to 10% more than their licensed weight when carrying rock, sand, and gravel destined for use in flood relief and levee repairs.
The lifted regulations, aiming to facilitate expedited repairs and reinforce infrastructure, will be in place through August 31; this extension seeks to help the state recover from the extensive flooding that has plagued various regions, requiring immediate action and resources, with these materials being crucial for the reinforcement and rebuilding of levees and other damaged structures.
However, the waiver comes with certain stipulations to ensure safety on the roads. As detailed by MoDOT, a loaded truck cannot exceed 10% above its gross licensed weight and drivers must respect bridge weight limits, restricting their speed to no more than 30 mph when crossing. The waiver strictly applies to the transportation of specific materials—rock, sand, and gravel—within the state of Missouri and is limited to non-interstate highways.
