The Missouri Department of Transportation has announced a public information meeting to discuss the upcoming improvements to Interstate 70, stretching from Boonville to Rocheport, an effort they are calling the Improve I-70 project. This meeting is set for July 21, from 4 to 6 p.m., located at the Boonville High School Gymnasium (1 Pirate Drive, Boonville, MO 65233), and aims to disseminate essential project details to the community.
At this open-house event, interested individuals will have the chance to review initial design plans, get an overview of the construction phases, understand the basic timeline with construction expected to start in spring 2026 and a completion target of late 2027, and learn more detailed information about the project, according to a statement on the MoDOT website. The department staff, alongside Burns & McDonnell engineers, will be present not only to walk attendees through the project but also field questions and, it is envisioned, assuage any concerns the public might harbor regarding the construction period.
With no formal presentation on the agenda, the meeting will grant residents, businesses, and regular travelers the flexibility to arrive, depart, and participate at their convenience within the allotted time frame. Feedback is welcomed, and participants can submit written comments during the meeting or provide them through the project website starting on the day of the meeting, July 21, until August 20.
Recognizing the importance of inclusive community engagement, MoDOT has made assurances that equal access will be prioritized for all participants; those requiring a reasonable accommodation or translation services have been asked to reach out to Improve I-70 Communications Coordinator Lairyn McGregor at 816-607-2152 by Friday, July 11 to make the necessary arrangements, the MoDOT public relations office has been open about this commitment. As for the financial aspect, the Improve I-70: Boonville to Rocheport project forms a part of a larger initiative that has secured a hefty $2.8 billion from the General Revenue following the Missouri FY2024 budget signing, this investment is aimed at adding a third lane to nearly 200 miles of the I-70 corridor from Blue Springs to Wentzville.
