Montgomery County detectives are on the hunt for three suspects connected to a frightening encounter on Rockville Pike involving an attempted strong-arm carjacking of a rideshare driver, as reported yesterday by the Montgomery County Police Department. On the evening of Saturday, May 24, police were alerted to the 8800 block of Rockville Pike at approximately 6:24 p.m. following a distressing incident that unfolded when a female rideshare driver was assaulted by one of her passengers.
The investigation, so far, indicates that after picking up the trio on Westlake Drive, things took a turn for the worse upon their arrival at the Medical Center Metro Station. While the two females stood outside, the male seated in the back commenced striking the driver, simultaneously demanding her exit from the vehicle. In a harrowing response, the driver executed several sharp turns before the male suspect, trying to hold his ground, was compelled to exit the moving vehicle.
The victim, understandably shaken, didn't stop there. She drove to the 8200 block of Wisconsin Avenue and reached out to authorities by calling 9-1-1. Montgomery County detectives have since turned their attention to surveillance videos in the area of the incident, which has led to the acquisition of photos of the suspected assailants. These photos have been made public in an effort to solicit assistance from anyone who might recognize them.
While the physical description of the suspects has not been detailed in the report, the released surveillance images could provide crucial leads. The Montgomery County Department of Police urges anyone with insights into the identity of these individuals or details about the attempted carjacking to step forward.
