A Montgomery County Police Sergeant has found himself on the wrong side of the law after being arrested for possession of child pornography, officials released on Thursday. Sergeant Mark Burhoe, who served the Montgomery County Department of Police for two decades, is facing grave charges in Carroll County. The veteran officer was taken into custody on July 10, according to a statement from the Montgomery County Police.
Subsequent to the arrest, the Montgomery County Department of Police acted swiftly, suspending Sergeant Burhoe without pay. "Considering the pending criminal matter, Burhoe has been suspended without pay, effective immediately," the department disclosed. The Carroll County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation into the sergeant's alleged misconduct and will be the contact point for any media-related queries.
The charges have sent ripples throughout the community and the law enforcement agency, raising concerns about the integrity of those sworn to protect and serve. Acknowledging the weight of the situation, the department reiterated that the "alleged actions of one individual do not represent the entire department." They stressed their commitment to maintaining public trust and pledged to ensure transparency and uphold professionalism during the ongoing investigations.
An internal investigation is also on the docket for Montgomery County Police. This is to ensure that all departmental policies have been adhered to, and to take appropriate action in light of the arrest. The department has made it clear through their statement that they are fully cooperating with the Carroll County Sheriff's Office in their criminal investigation. Meanwhile, the community awaits the outcomes of these processes with bated breath, hoping that justice, irrespective of rank or badge, will be served.
