The Montgomery County Police Department's ongoing Summer Traffic Task Force operations have entered their seventh week, continuing to make the streets safer by cracking down on impaired driving. The department's Alcohol Initiatives Unit, in collaboration with a host of other law enforcement agencies, dedicated itself to a focused traffic enforcement across the county from June 29 through July 5.

According to the Montgomery County Police Department, officers conducted a total of 130 traffic stops within that period, resulting in 28 DUI arrests. The task force also made one additional criminal arrest. Despite the notable number of stops and their ensuing arrests — which do not include further DUI arrests made by patrol officers outside of the task force — the grind of law enforcement in the heat of summer presses on.

The enforcement efforts did not stop at arrests for impaired driving. Officers issued a substantial 240 traffic citations, alongside 155 warnings to drivers. They also handed out 5 equipment repair orders, solidifying their commitment to not just penalize, but also to promote safer vehicular conditions on the road. Furthermore, the task force reported issuing one criminal citation and one civil citation, expanding their reach beyond just the immediate dangers posed by alcohol-impaired drivers.

Several allied agencies joined the fray, underscoring a powerful coalition for safety, including the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Maryland-National Capital Park Police, the Maryland State Police (SPIDRE Team and Rockville Barrack), and the Maryland Transportation Authority Police.
