Mooresville commuters, brace yourselves for some disruptions on your drive. Contract crews from the N.C. Department of Transportation are gearing up to start work on a new bridge, a key part of the expansive N.C. 150 renovation project that comes with a hefty $249 million price tag. This project, stretching between N.C. 16 in Catawba County and U.S. 21/N.C. 150 in Mooresville, is not only widening the well-traveled route, but also revamping the interchange with I-77 to smooth out the often-congested traffic flow.

According to an announcement made by the N.C. Department of Transportation, starting next Monday, motorists will find the right lanes on I-77 closed permanently as they near N.C. 150, pushing all traffic to the inner lanes. Considering the need for minimum disruption, these closures will take place at night, between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Thankfully, drivers won't be left in a lurch, as two travel lanes will remain open in both directions, and access to and from N.C. 150 will be maintained.

The update specifies three phases for the bridge project. Initially, they're focusing on creating additional lanes for eastbound traffic, then they'll attend to the needs of the westbound lanes. A 160-foot-wide structure featuring ten travel lanes, which promises to make the transition to the existing roadway seamless, and at last, the old bridge will be dismantled.
