As Morristown gears up for a star-spangled celebration at Cherokee Park, officials are making sure that the only sparks flying are from the fireworks, not from traffic-induced tempers. The City of Morristown's government took to social media to inform residents about the traffic plan in place. According to the City's post, access to Cherokee Park Road will be cut off roughly 30 minutes prior to the commencement of the fireworks display on July 4th.

Those planning to celebrate at the park are advised by the Morristown Police Department to carefully follow exit routes signposted by message boards. Traffic leaving the park must turn right onto Cherokee Park Road, choosing the right lane to proceed towards Grainger County or the left to head into Morristown, along highway 25E. The MPD plans to deploy multiple officers to seamlessly handle the flow of post-celebration traffic, alongside deputies from the Hamblen County Sheriff’s Department.

Local commuters who aren't partaking in the festivities but who will be near the park are being advised to expect heavier traffic than usual. Cross traffic at Reeds Chapel Road and Bright’s Pike will be restricted, and the access road to and from Weigel’s will be closed off to through traffic towards Cherokee Park Road. The adjustments to usual traffic patterns are being put in place to ensure the safety and orderliness of what is predicted to be a densely attended event.

While the Fourth of July is a day steeped in tradition and celebration, the Morristown Police Department is asking the community to celebrate responsibly. In their social media post, the MPD expressed their well-wishes, stating they want "all citizens a safe and Happy Independence Day." Anticipating high volumes of traffic, it appears they are taking all necessary measures to ensure to quickly and safely manage the ebb and flow of vehicles during one of the most bustling holiday celebrations of the year.
