The Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating a deadly shooting that shattered the quiet of Southwest in the early hours of Sunday. First District officers were summoned by the sound of gunfire at approximately 1:21 a.m. on Sunday, in the 1100 block of 3rd Street, Southwest. They arrived to find an adult male victim, later identified as 49-year-old Dangelo Foster of Upper Marlboro, MD, struggling with critical gunshot wounds, according to a release by the Metropolitan Police Department

Despite the rapid response of DC Fire and EMS, whose arrival on the scene saw the commencement of intensive life-saving efforts, the bid to rescue Foster ended in tragedy. The victim was pronounced dead soon after, his life snuffed out by the all-too-common specter of gun violence. The incident, which took place in the rear of an apartment complex, adds to a regrettably growing tally of homicides that the city has witnessed this year.

The quest for justice now hangs heavy, with law enforcement urging the public's help in bringing the perpetrator or perpetrators to book. "Anyone who knows about this incident should take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411," the Metropolitan Police Department stated. There exists a reward of up to $25,000, which MPD offers for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case as well as in other homicides that punctuate the District of Columbia's streets.
