The Metropolitan Police Department is currently on the hunt for an individual accused of assaulting a police officer with a vehicle in Northwest D.C. The incident took place yesterday morning, with the MPD offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect. The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the confrontation and has since been treated at a local hospital, as reported by the MPD’s official news release.
Around 2:00 am yesterday, in the 1300 block of U St NW, an attempted traffic stop escalated when the driver who the officers were attempting to detain, decided to flee. In the commotion, not only was an officer hit, but another vehicle was struck by the suspect's car, according to the same MPD announcement.
Details surrounding the identity of the suspect were sparse, but the police have released footage and a photo in hopes that the public can assist in locating the alleged assailant. The surveillance video captures a glimpse of the suspect, aiding in their identification for those who may have pertinent information.
Authorities are urging anyone who may recognize the suspect or has information about the incident to contact them. As the MPD statement specifies, "Anyone who can identify this suspect, or who has knowledge of this incident should take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411."
