Commuters in Pittsburgh faced significant delays Saturday morning following a multi-vehicle crash that forced the closure of the inbound lanes of the Fort Pitt Tunnel. The incident, which involved multiple cars, was reported just after 9 a.m., leading to extensive backups along the eastbound lanes of I-376. According to PennDOT, emergency crews were on the scene, although the expected duration of the closure was not immediately known, reports WTAE.
At least one individual was transported to a local hospital after the collision, an Allegheny County 911 official confirmed; however, the extent of the injuries remained unclear, according to WPXI. Drivers were encouraged to seek alternative routes to bypass the gridlock.
Authorities have yet to release details regarding the cause of the incident or the identities of those involved.
