The encroachment of homes and businesses within the proximity of the landfill was a catalyst for the city's action. As reported by the City of Murfreesboro's official website, Mayor Shane McFarland weighed in to assert the City Council has "been diligent making sure resident's concerns and complaints are heard regarding the landfill." He further clarified that the intention is to duly regulate Middle Point "just like all our existing industrial operations," highlighting the city's commitment to uniformly enforce its ordinances.
The proximity of community hubs—a mere half-mile from Middle Point's operations—renders this annexation significant for many Murfreesboro residents.
