In a recent shuffle within Mayor Freddie O'Connell's team, Nashville has welcomed a new Chief of Staff, Masami Tyson, who takes over from Marjorie Pomeroy-Wallace. Pomeroy-Wallace isn’t stepping away but instead, shifting into the inaugural role of Chief Strategy Officer and Senior Advisor, as the Mayor's Office announced. "Masami's leadership is a tremendous addition to the Mayor's Office, and she will be a one-of-a-kind asset as we look to empower our staff and all of Metro government to deliver its best work for Nashvillians," O'Connell stated in the release, extolling the virtues of his team’s new and evolving composition.

Tyson, whose resume touts her previous position as Global Director of Foreign Direct Investment and Trade at the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development and her experience in the legal sector, steps into her new role while expressing gratitude and excitement. "I am so grateful to Mayor O'Connell for this opportunity and am honored and excited to serve Nashvillians in this capacity," Tyson told the Mayor's Office, her eagerness to contribute to Nashville's governance palpable. Starting tomorrow, she will interface with Nashville's local government, hitting the ground running full time from August 1.

The move for Pomeroy-Wallace seems to be part of a strategic pivot, enhanced by her experience and intention to build on her connective strengths, "Marjorie Pomeroy-Wallace was consistent since the beginning of the term that she wanted to help build our great Mayor's Office team and then transition into a new role that leans into her strengths as a bridge builder and strategist," the Mayor enthused in his office's communication. Pomeroy-Wallace’s new role will have her develop strategic frameworks for the city's long-term objectives, including oversight of data management, regional boards, and coalitions.

Pomeroy-Wallace herself is upbeat about the transition, endorsing her successor with full confidence and looking forward to focusing on strategic coalition building, "I am grateful that our search for my successor led to Masami because she is the perfect choice to take over as Chief of Staff for Mayor O'Connell," Pomeroy-Wallace according to the Mayor's Office statement, her statement affirming the strong foundation of teamwork she's leaving for Tyson to build upon further. Both Tyson and Pomeroy-Wallace will assume their respective new duties imminently, with the latter segueing into her strategy-focused role immediately and Tyson formally taking the reins in August.
