On Thursday evening, Nashville Police apprehended 25-year-old convicted felon Demarius Fite after a keen observation led them to a high-speed chase on I-65. The suspect was identified in a stolen 2019 Ram pickup, speeding past the Rosa L. Parks Boulevard exit while driving without headlights, a detail confirmed by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
After detectives tagged him, a police helicopter continued the pursuit, eventually tracking Fite to the 1600 block of 22nd Avenue North. Once the vehicle was stationary and Fite had disembarked, authorities quickly moved in for the arrest. Inside the recovered pickup, officers found a sawed-off shotgun with an altered serial number, adding to the charges against Fite who has a history of aggression and theft.
Fite's rap sheet includes convictions for aggravated assault, burglary, and theft, and his latest run-in with the law adds vehicle theft, reckless driving, felon in possession of a firearm, driving on a suspended license, the possession of drug paraphernalia, and tampering with firearm identification to his criminal portfolio. Accordingly, he's being held on a $76,000 bond.
The recovery of the stolen vehicle and weapon followed a report from earlier that morning about the theft of the truck.
