Derek Michael Randolph, a 25-year-old accused of murder, was taken into custody Tuesday night after a careful vehicle takedown maneuver by law enforcement officials on Dickerson Pike, as reported by the Nashville Metro Police Department. Found within the stolen Kia Forte Randolph was driving were not only a pistol but an assortment of drugs, including fentanyl, crack cocaine, and marijuana, adding layers to what already is a complex investigation.
Based on the diligent work of Homicide Unit Detective David Boone, it came to light that Randolph was allegedly the individual behind the gun that discharged multiple rounds into a Jeep Cherokee on the morning of April 19, as its driver tried to depart from Honeysuckle Market's fueling area, according to the Nashville government officials. The shots taken proved fatal for 37-year-old Michael Robinson, who had been behind the wheel and visiting from Memphis, whose life was tragically cut short. One of his four passengers was injured in what seemed an unprovoked act of violence.
Following the arrest, Randolph was taken directly to the police headquarters. He, however, chose to exercise his right not to speak to detectives and provided no statement at that time. Afterward, he was processed and booked into the Metro Jail, where a judicial commissioner set his bond at an imposing $495,000, which reflects the gravity of the charges against him - one count of criminal homicide and four counts of attempted criminal homicide.
